Saturday 10th February marks the start of the 2024 Chinese New Year, and here at Cladding Monkey, we believe there’s no better time to opt for a Chinese takeaway than now.
In order to celebrate Chinese culture and one of our nation’s favourite cuisines, we analysed data from Just Eat to find the UK city with the most Chinese takeaways.
Today, we’re proud to name Lisburn in Northern Ireland as the best UK city to be if you enjoy a Chinese takeaway, with 106 Chinese takeaways per 100,000 people: a massive 512.8% higher than UK average.
The data we analysed found the average number of Chinese takeaways in the UK to be 17.3 per 100,000 people. With 106 per 100k people, Lisburn has 512.8% more Chinese takeaways than the UK average.

Per 100,000 people, the top 10 cities in the UK with the most chinese takeaways are:
- Lisburn – 106, 512.8% higher than UK average.
- Newcastle upon Tyne – 65, 275.2% higher than UK average.
- Salford – 58, 235.1% higher than UK average.
- Durham – 40, 128.9% higher than UK average.
- Manchester – 30, 72% higher than UK average.
- Liverpool – 27, 55.1% higher than UK average.
- Belfast – 26, 52.2% higher than UK average.
- Wolverhampton – 25, 46.8% higher than UK average.
- Aberdeen – 24, 41% higher than UK average.
- Portsmouth – 24, 37.6% higher than UK average.
Newcastle Upon Tyne came second in our data-led list, with 65 Chinese takeaways per 100,000: 275.2% higher than the UK average.
As well as looking at the top of the list, we also looked at the 10 cities with the least number of Chinese takeaways, with Hereford having the lowest amount per 100,000 people:
- Hereford – 3, 81.5% lower than UK average.
- Chester – 5, 73.9% lower than UK average.
- Bath – 5.6, 68.53% lower than UK average.
- Canterbury – 6, 66.3% lower than UK average.
- Inverness – 6.3, 64.7% lower than UK average.
- Lancaster – 6.8, 62.1% lower than UK average.
- Chelmsford – 7.2, 59.3% lower than UK average.
- Carlisle – 8.3, 53.4% lower than UK average.
- Perth – 8.4, 52.6% lower than UK average.
- Wakefield – 9.4, 47.3% lower than UK average.
Following Hereford is Chester, with just 5 Chinese takeaways per 100,000 people, a number that’s 73.9% lower than average.
